School Committee OKs Roof Funding, Advances Peasley Plan

School Committee · Meeting of September 2, 2026

Northborough School Committee advances a new pre-K-5 Peasley building and splits roof-project funding authority. Officials said the preferred Peasley schematic is an entirely new building rather than an addition, aiming for a spring town vote, with a district facilities official noting "there is going to be no disruption on the kids' learning while construction is going on." The committee separately voted unanimously to give the Select Board final funding authority over a Melican-Zeh roof replacement project, clearing the way for an MSBA funding agreement. The district closed fiscal year 2026 with a $29,989,942 budget and reported enrollment of 1,596 students, nine below projection.

Business administrator Jessica Burke said special-education costs rose "25 percent" over last year, qualifying the district for added state circuit-breaker funds. Dan Hecht was welcomed as the town's new Financial Planning Committee budget liaison.
