Northborough-Southborough Regional School Committee Approves $31.4 Million FY27 Budget
NORTHBOROUGH — February 25, 2026 — Northborough-Southborough Regional School Committee unanimously approves $31.4 million FY27 budget at 5.81 percent increase. The committee voted 6-0 Wednesday to adopt the recommended budget of $31,416,287, a $2,071,974 increase over the current year, after Business Manager Becky Sheridan described how district leaders cut the original 12.79 percent request roughly in half through staffing reductions of approximately 5.5 FTEs, circuit breaker fund applications totaling $824,000, and line-item trimming. The committee then voted unanimously to draw $675,000 from the excess and deficiency fund, reducing Northborough's operational assessment increase to 5.91 percent and Southborough's to 4.83 percent — below the 6 percent thresholds both towns had flagged. Special education tuition, transportation, and health insurance account for 59 percent of the total increase. The committee also voted 4-1, with one abstention, to adopt the 2026-27 school calendar under option five, which schedules professional development days to avoid Yom Kippur, Eid, and Orthodox Good Friday; a member voted no, saying the district should not single out any religious holidays at all.
