NORTHBOROUGH — The Northborough Council on Aging spent most of its September 8 meeting sorting years of survey and focus-group data into four strategic-plan themes. Chair Fred Batchel read a report from outreach coordinator Jocelyn describing a resident couple who avoided a utility shutoff after racking up an $11,000 debt with National Grid, resolved through the state's RAFT program and National Grid's Arrearage Management Program, which forgives $975 per on-time $330 payment. The Friends of the Council on Aging reported 787 members and $26,406.86 raised so far in 2026, with a "Country Fair and Grandma's Attic" sale set for November 21.
Members agreed survey respondents' top priority was "expand exercise and fitness programming," while debating whether the Bistro meal program's fourth-place ranking among improvement ideas reflected satisfaction rather than neglect, noting "it didn't say get rid of the Bistro, it said expand it." The board approved its August 11 minutes and adjourned, both by unanimous voice vote.
