NORTHBOROUGH — The Northborough Traffic Safety Committee heard an hour of resident pleas on Davis Street safety but took no action on fixes. Chair Kate Gerard presided as more than ten residents, including Omesh Kamat, Eric and Karina Hansen, and Stephen Murphy, described near-misses on the narrow road, which carries roughly 6,200 vehicles a day at average speeds of 26 to 28 mph against a 25 mph limit, per 2018 CMRPC data presented by Town Engineer Scott Carpentier. One resident said, "I've probably come close to dying at least a dozen times." The committee agreed to seek a cost quote from the Central Mass Regional Planning Commission for a formal roadway safety audit and consider a resident survey before recommending any one-way conversion, cul-de-sac, sidewalk or speed-hump plan to the Select Board.
Elsewhere, the panel closed requests for a Ball Street minimum speed sign and an East Main/Allen Street three-way stop, approved September 8 minutes 4-0, and learned a roughly $2 million Safe Routes to School sidewalk grant was submitted that day.
