Northborough Police to Seek Tasers and Two Vehicles at 2026 Town Meeting
Town Meeting · Meeting of March 11, 2026
Northborough police chief previews taser replacements and two new cruisers for 2026 Town Meeting. Chief Brian Griffin told Town Meeting members at the March 11 session that the department will seek funding to replace all 24 officer-carried Axon X2 tasers with the newer X10 model, citing manufacturer discontinuation of the X2 and an inability to source replacement parts. A second request covers two Ford-platform vehicles — one patrol unit replacing a 2020 Chevy Tahoe and one administrative vehicle replacing a 2014 Ford Escape, both with approximately 100,000 miles.
Griffin noted that upfitting a raw police vehicle with lights, sirens, radios, radar, and a detainee compartment significantly raises the final purchase price above the base vehicle cost. No dollar figures were disclosed during the presentation; both items will go before Town Meeting voters.
